IMPORTANT MARINE MAMMALS AREAS
The IMMA programme aims to restoring oceanic balance by identifying Important Marine Mammal Areas (IMMAs) to protect all marine mammal species.

Water Revolution Foundation & Switzerland for the Oceans
These informative and collaborative series of dialogues are hosted by Switzerland for the Oceans in collaboration with The Water Revolution Foundation and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
The immediate goal is to focus on efforts of the yachting community and indeed the wider community to reinvest in ocean conservation, for example, through funding the identification of Important Marine Mammal Areas (IMMAs) and how prioritising their protection can drive transformative action.

What are Important Marine Mammals Areas (IMMAs)?
IMMAs are specific habitat areas important for one or more marine mammal species, that have the potential to be delineated and managed for conservation. Investing in ocean conservation is a transformative step that addresses pollution, fosters nature's recovery, and amplifies awareness, sustainable practices, and nature-based solutions.
Supporting the IMMA programme directly enhances ocean health, making it one of the most impactful initiatives for ecological restoration.

About Water Revolution Foundation
Water Revolution Foundation is a non-profit organisation founded from within the yachting sector to drive environmental advancement through collaboration and innovation. The foundation advocates and facilitates a transformative approach for the industry to reduce its ecological footprint and preserve the world's precious oceans for a sustainable future. About The Ocean Assist Fund
Through the Ocean Assist Fund’s process, appropriate criteria will be used to select marine conservation and restoration projects to allocate funds granted by the yachting and wider community, ensuring that support goes to the most urgent needs. An independent scientific advisory board composed of renowned ocean scientists will identify the projects to receive periodic investments that have maximum impact in preserving the oceans, track progress, and feed the results back to the yachting community, donors, and investors via Water Revolution Foundation for accountability, adoption and implementation to align yachting with nature, and as such lead by example.
By investing in ocean conservation through this programme, the community can act as a significant force to solve ocean problems and make a positive collective impact, not only for themselves but for the planet as a whole.

Why this collaboration?
In 2016, Switzerland for the Oceans emerged as a non-profit organisation as our co-founders did learn about plight of the ocean from colleagues in the yacht sector. The Water Revolution Foundation emerged from within the yacht industry to focus on sustainable operational practice and to support positive social and environmental outcomes for the seas on which they and their customers operate. Being as Water Revolution Foundation has it focus on the yachting community especially, Switzerland for the Oceans, being more of an outlier, is able to reach a wider community with interest also in the progress of the ocean.

WEBINARS RECAP
Webinar 1 - 10.09.24
The first session highlighted the IMMA program's focus on the North West Atlantic, where scientists are gathering vital marine data from the U.S. East Coast to the Caribbean. Experts from the Water Revolution Foundation and IUCN emphasized the importance of this data in protecting marine life and supporting ocean-dependent communities, including the yachting sector.
The second webinar featured innovative conservation frameworks such as the Doughnut Economy and 3-R Model. Attendees learned about a transformative investment strategy combining Verified Emission Reductions (VERs) with Regenerative Contribution Units (RCUs) to support marine restoration through the IMMA program. The session concluded with insights on the ocean's role in sustaining the blue economy.
